Measurement of double parton scattering in p̄ p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV
Physical Review Letters 79:4 (1997) 584-589
Abstract:
A strong signal for double parton scattering (DP) is observed in a 16 pb-1 sample of p̄ p → γ + 3 jets + X data from the CDF experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. The process-independent DP parameter, σeff, is obtained without reference to theoretical calculations by comparing observed DP events to events with hard scatterings at separate p̄ p collisions. The result, σeff = (14.5 ± 1.7-2.3+1.7) mb, represents a significant improvement over previous measurements. For the first time, the Feynman x dependence of the σeff parameter is investigated, and no dependence is seen.Search for third generation leptoquarks in p̄ p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV
Physical Review Letters 78:15 (1997) 2906-2911
Abstract:
We present the results of a search for third generation leptoquark (LQ) pairs in 110 ± 8 pb-1 of pp collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume third generation leptoquarks decay to a τ lepton and a b quark with branching ratio β. We observe one candidate event, consistent with standard model background expectations. We place upper limits on σ(p̄p → LQLQ) · β2 as a function of the leptoquark mass MLQ. We exclude at 95% confidence level scalar leptoquarks with MLQ < 99 GeV/c2, gauge vector leptoquarks with MLQ < 225 GeV/c2, and nongauge vector leptoquarks with MLQ < 170 GeV/c2 for β= 1.Micro strip gas chambers overcoated with carbon, hydrogenated amorphous silicon, and glass films
