Abstract:
© 2014 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration. An improved measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson is derived from a combined fit to the reconstructed invariant mass spectra of the decay channels Hâγγ and HâZZââ4. The analysis uses the pp collision data sample recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25fb-1. The measured value of the Higgs boson mass is mH=125.36±0.37(stat)±0.18(syst)GeV. This result is based on improved energy-scale calibrations for photons, electrons, and muons as well as other analysis improvements, and supersedes the previous result from ATLAS. Upper limits on the total width of the Higgs boson are derived from fits to the invariant mass spectra of the Hâγγ and HâZZââ4 decay channels.Constraints on the Higgs boson width from off-shell production and decay to Z-boson pairs

Abstract:
Constraints are presented on the total width of the recently discovered Higgs boson, ÎH, using its relative on-shell and off-shell production and decay rates to a pair of Z bosons, where one Z boson decays to an electron or muon pair, and the other to an electron, muon, or neutrino pair. The analysis is based on the data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011 and 2012, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.1fb -1 at a center-of-mass energy s=7TeV and 19.7fb -1 at s=8TeV. A simultaneous maximum likelihood fit to the measured kinematic distributions near the resonance peak and above the Z-boson pair production threshold leads to an upper limit on the Higgs boson width of ÎH < 22MeV at a 95% confidence level, which is 5.4 times the expected value in the standard model at the measured mass of mH = 125.6GeV. © 2014 Elsevier B.V.Engulfing a radio pulsar: the case of PSR J1023+0038
