A metal deficient early B-type star near the edge of the galactic disk
Astronomy and Astrophysics 305:1 (1996) 164-170
Abstract:
High resolution spectra of an early B-type star associated with the H II region detected by de Geus et al. (1993) are analysed using LTE model atmosphere techniques to derive stellar atmospheric parameters and a chemical composition. A distance to the star of 8.2 kpc is estimated, placing it near the edge of the galactic disk and closer than the kinematic distance of 20 kpc to the H II region, calculated by de Geus et al. A differential line by line abundance analysis with respect to the spectroscopic standard 蟿 Sco indicates a significant metal depletion, with elements down on average by -0.5 dex.Forward-backward charge asymmetry of electron pairs above the Z0 pole
Physical Review Letters 77:13 (1996) 2616-2621
Abstract:
We present a measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry of the process pp炉 鈫 Z0/纬 + X, Z0/纬 鈫 e+e鈭 at Mee > MZ using 110 pb鈭1 of data at 鈭 s = 1.8 TeV collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The measured charge asymmetries are 0.43 卤 0.10 in the invariant mass region Mee > 105 GeV/c2, and 0.070 卤 0.016 in the region 75 < Mee < 105 GeV/c2. These results are consistent with the standard model values of 0.528 卤 0.009 and 0.052 卤 0.002, respectively. 漏 1996 The American Physical Society.Further properties of high-mass multijet events at the Fermilab proton-antiproton collider
Physical Review D Particles Fields Gravitation and Cosmology 54:7 (1996) 4221-4233
Abstract:
The properties of high-mass multijet events produced at the Fermilab proton-antiproton collider are compared with leading order QCD matrix element predictions, QCD parton shower Monte Carlo predictions, and the predictions from a model in which events are distributed uniformly over the available multibody phase space. Multijet distributions corresponding to ([Formula presented]) variables that span the [Formula presented]-body parameter space are found to be well described by the QCD calculations for inclusive three-jet, four-jet, and five-jet events. The agreement between data, QCD matrix element calculations, and QCD parton shower Monte Carlo predictions suggests that 2鈫2 scattering plus gluon radiation provides a good first approximation to the full LO QCD matrix element for events with three, four, or even five jets in the final state. 漏 1996 The American Physical Society.Measurement of the B- and B鈭0 meson lifetimes using semileptonic decays
