Abstract:

We investigate the decays D 0 鈫 蟺 - 鈩 + v and D 0 鈫 K - 鈩 ++ v, where 鈩 is e or 渭, using approximately 7 fb -1 of data collected with the CLEO III detector. We find R 0 鈮 鈩(D 0 鈫 蟺 -- e +惫)/鈩(顿 0 鈫 K - e + v) = 0.082 卤 0.006 卤 0.005. Fits to the kinematic distributions of the data provide parameters describing the form factor of each mode. Combining the form factor results and R 0 gives |f + 蟺(0)| 2|V cd| 2/|f + K(0)| 2|V cs| 2 = 0.038 -0.007-0.003 +0.006+0.005. 漏 2005 The American Physical Society.

Black hole X-ray binary jets

Abstract:

Relativistic jets powered by stellar mass black holes in X-ray binaries appear to come in two types: steady outflows associated with hard X-ray states and large scale discrete ejections associated with transient outbursts. We show that the broadband radio spectrum of a `quiescent' stellar mass black hole closely resembles that of canonical hard state sources emitting at four orders of magnitude higher X-ray levels, suggesting that a relativistic outflow is being formed down to at least a few 10^(-6) times the Eddington X-ray luminosity. We further report on the discovery of a low surface brightness radio nebula around the stellar black hole in Cyg X-1, and discuss how it can be used as an effective calorimeter for the jet kinetic power.
