An overview of the status of the LHCb RICH detectors
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment 595:1 (2008) 31-35
Abstract:
The LHCb experiment will make precision measurements of CP violation and rare b-hadron decays. Efficient particle identification with high purity over a wide momentum range is vital to these aims. The experiment employs two ring-imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detectors with three radiators, silica aerogel, C4F10 and CF4, to cover the momentum range from around 1-100 GeV/c. The RICH system employs a number of innovative techniques, both in hardware and software. A total of 484 custom-built pixel Hybrid Photon Detectors (HPDs) will be used to measure the spatial positions of Cherenkov photons with wavelengths in the range 200-600 nm, covering an active area of around 3.3 m2. The production of the HPDs has now been completed and the tube quality, including the photo-cathode quantum efficiency, far exceeds expectations. The installation of RICH 1 is almost complete; RICH 2 has been installed and aligned, and commissioning is almost complete. Reconstruction studies incorporating realistic backgrounds indicate excellent kaon efficiencies of around 97% and pion misidentification probabilities of around 6%, averaged over the full momentum range. This paper provides a general overview of the status of the LHCb RICH project, with emphasis on the readiness for LHC start-up and for physics. 漏 2008 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:
We search for pair production of doubly charged Higgs particles (H+/- +/-) followed by decays into electron-tau (etau) and muon-tau (mutau) pairs using data (350 pb(-1) collected from [over]pp collisions at sqrt[s]=1.96 TeV by the CDF II experiment. We search separately for cases where three or four final-state leptons are detected, and combine results for exclusive decays to left-handed etau (mutau) pairs. We set an H+/- +/- lower mass limit of 114(112) GeV/c(2) at the 95% confidence level.Search for docubly charged higgs bosons with lepton-rlavor-violating decays involving 蟿 leptons

Abstract:
We measure the branching ratio of the purely leptonic decay of the D+ meson with unprecedented precision as B(D+鈫捨+谓)=(3.82卤0. 32卤0.09)脳10-4, using 818pb-1 of data taken on the 蠄(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR collider. We use this determination to derive a value for the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+, combining with measurements of the D+ lifetime and assuming |Vcd|=|Vus|. We find fD+=(205.8卤8.5卤2.5)MeV. The decay rate asymmetry 螕(D+鈫捨+谓)-螕(D-鈫捨-谓虅)螕(D+鈫捨 +谓)+螕(D-鈫捨-谓虅)=0.08卤0.08, consistent with no CP violation. We also set 90% confidence level upper limits on B(D+鈫捪+谓 )<1.2脳10-3 and B(D+鈫抏+谓)<8.8脳10-6. 漏 2008 The American Physical Society.Dalitz plot analysis of the D+鈫扠-蟺+蟺+ decay
