Observation of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry in lead-lead collisions at 鈭歴NN =2.76 Tev with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
Physical Review Letters 105:25 (2010)
Abstract:
By using the ATLAS detector, observations have been made of a centrality-dependent dijet asymmetry in the collisions of lead ions at the Large Hadron Collider. In a sample of lead-lead events with a per-nucleon center of mass energy of 2.76 TeV, selected with a minimum bias trigger, jets are reconstructed in fine-grained, longitudinally segmented electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeters. The transverse energies of dijets in opposite hemispheres are observed to become systematically more unbalanced with increasing event centrality leading to a large number of events which contain highly asymmetric dijets. This is the first observation of an enhancement of events with such large dijet asymmetries, not observed in proton-proton collisions, which may point to an interpretation in terms of strong jet energy loss in a hot, dense medium.漏 2010 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration.Top quark mass measurement in the lepton+jets channel using a matrix element method and in situ jet energy calibration
Physical Review Letters 105:25 (2010)
Abstract:
A precision measurement of the top quark mass mt is obtained using a sample of tt虅 events from pp虅 collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF II detector. Selected events require an electron or muon, large missing transverse energy, and exactly four high-energy jets, at least one of which is tagged as coming from a b quark. A likelihood is calculated using a matrix element method with quasi-Monte Carlo integration taking into account finite detector resolution and jet mass effects. The event likelihood is a function of mt and a parameter 螖JES used to calibrate the jet energy scale in situ. Using a total of 1087 events in 5.6fb鈯-1 of integrated luminosity, a value of mt=173.0卤1. 2GeV/c2 is measured. 漏 2010 The American Physical Society.Diffractive W and Z production at the Fermilab Tevatron

Abstract:
We report on a measurement of the fraction of events with a W or Z boson which are produced diffractively in p虅p collisions at 鈭歴=1.96TeV, using data from 0.6fb鈯-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the CDFII detector equipped with a Roman-pot spectrometer that detects the p虅 from p虅+p鈫抪虅+[X+W/Z]. We find that (1.00卤0.11)% of Ws and (0.88卤0.22)% of Zs are produced diffractively in a region of antiproton or proton fractional momentum loss 尉 of 0.03<尉<0.10 and 4-momentum transferred squared t of -1Erratum: Scaled momentum spectra in deep inelastic scattering at HERA (Journal of High Energy Physics (2010) 06 (009))
