Computing with rust

Harnessing whirls in iron-oxide

Where鈥檚 the very last place you would look if you wanted a new material to make computer memory? The compost heap or the scrap yard, probably. So who came up with the idea of using rust? Singapore鈥檚 Hariom Jani did. And he鈥檚 here to tell you it鈥檚 the futu

I am a materials physicist and a Royal Society University Research Fellow. My research ambition is to find the 'Silicon of tomorrow'.

I work with a passionate group of researchers to design quantum materials that could enable ultra-fast, energy-efficient functionalities. Our research sits at the nexus of quantum materials engineering, nanomagnetism, spintronics, and X-ray and optical spectro-microscopy techniques. In the long run, we aim to assemble these functions to build next-gen computing and communication hardware.

I am also passionate about making science education fun and engaging by using an experiential pedagogy. I am currently a Fellow of The Queen's College. Previously, I have worked with the Ministry of Education (Singapore) to develop novel tools for science education. I am also an advisor and a volunteer science faculty of the educational non-profit - Raising a Mathematician Foundation.
