Search for direct top squark pair production in final states with two leptons in 鈭 s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

Abstract:

The results of a search for direct pair production of top squarks in events with two opposite-charge leptons (electrons or muons) are reported, using 36.1 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity from proton鈥損roton collisions at 鈭歴 = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. To cover a range of mass differences between the top squark t藴 and lighter supersymmetric particles, four possible decay modes of the top squark are targeted with dedicated selections: the decay t藴 鈫 b 蠂藴卤1 into a b-quark and the lightest chargino with 蠂藴卤1 鈫 W蠂藴01, the decay t藴 鈫 t 蠂藴01 into an on-shell top quark and the lightest neutralino, the three-body decay t藴 鈫 bW 蠂藴01 and the four-body decay t藴 鈫 b`饾搧v蠂藴01 . No significant excess of events is observed above the Standard Model background for any selection, and limits on top squarks are set as a function of the t藴 and 蠂藴01 masses. The results exclude at 95% confidence level 蠂藴01 masses up to about 720 GeV, extending the exclusion region of supersymmetric parameter space covered by previous searches.

Search for new phenomena with large jet multiplicities and missing transverse momentum using large-radius jets and flavour-tagging at ATLAS in 13 TeV pp collisions

Journal of High Energy Physics Springer Verlag 2017:12 (2017) 34

Abstract:

A search is presented for particles that decay producing a large jet multiplicity and invisible particles. The event selection applies a veto on the presence of isolated electrons or muons and additional requirements on the number of b-tagged jets and the scalar sum of masses of large-radius jets. Having explored the full ATLAS 2015鈥2016 dataset of LHC proton鈥損roton collisions at 鈭 s = 13 TeV, which corresponds to 36.1 fb鈭1 of integrated luminosity, no evidence is found for physics beyond the Standard Model. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models inspired by R-parity-conserving and R-parity-violating supersymmetry, where gluinos are pair-produced. More generic models within the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric Standard Model are also considered.
