Abstract:

Exploiting the manipulation of the SLAC Linear Collider electron-beam polarization, we present precise direct measurements of the parity-violation parameters Ac and Ab in the Z-boson-c-quark and Z-boson-b-quark coupling. Quark-antiquark discrimination is accomplished via a unique algorithm that takes advantage of the precise SLAC Large Detector charge coupled device vertex detector, employing the net charge of displaced vertices as well as the charge of kaons that emanate from those vertices. From the 1996-1998 sample of 400000 Z decays, produced with an average beam polarization of 73.4%, we find Ac = 0.673 ± 0.029(stat) ± 0.023(syst) and Ab = 0.919 ± 0.018(stat) ± 0.017(syst). © 2005 The American Physical Society.

Abstract:

We have reconstructed 695 three-track τ decay vertices using a high resolution drift chamber close to the interaction point. From the distribution of decay lengths we measure the lifetime to be (3.06 ±0.20±0.14)×10-13 s. Using this result we find that the ratio of charged weak coupling constant for the τ to that of the μ, G τ/G μ=0.967±0.040 consistent with the concept of lepton universality. © 1988 Springer-Verlag.

Abstract:

To reach design luminosity, the International Linear Collider (ILC) must be able to create and reliably maintain nanometer size beams. The ATF damping ring is the unique facility where ILC emittances are possible. In this paper we present and evaluate the proposal to create a final focus facility at the ATF which, using compact final focus optics and an ILC-like bunch train, would be capable of achieving 37 nm beam size. Such a facility would enable the development of beam diagnostics and tuning methods, as well as the training of young accelerator physicists. © 2005 IEEE.
