Black Hole

Lensing of space time around a black hole. At Oxford we study black holes observationally and theoretically on all size and time scales - it is some of our core work.

Abstract:

Results are presented of searches for the production of supersymmetric particles decaying into final states with missing transverse momentum and exactly two isolated leptons in 鈭歴 = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Search strategies requiring lepton pairs with identical-sign or opposite-sign electric charges are described. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb-1 collected with the ATLAS detector, no significant excesses are observed. Based on specific benchmark models, limits are placed on the squark mass between 450 and 690 GeV for squarks approximately degenerate in mass with gluinos, depending on the supersymmetric mass hierarchy considered. 漏 2011 CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration.

Abstract:

This Letter presents the first search for a heavy particle decaying into an e卤渭ss final state in 鈭歴=7TeV pp collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35pb-1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on two representative models. In an R-parity violating supersymmetric model, tau sneutrinos with a mass below 0.75 TeV are excluded, assuming all R-parity violating couplings are zero except 位311鈥=0.11 and 位312=0.07. In a lepton flavor violating model, a Z鈥-like vector boson with masses of 0.70-1.00 TeV and corresponding cross sections times branching ratios of 0.175-0.183 pb is excluded. These results extend to higher mass R-parity violating sneutrinos and lepton flavor violating Z's than previous constraints from the Tevatron. 漏 2011 American Physical Society.

Abstract:

Measurements of the differential production cross sections d蟽/dpTB and d蟽/dyB for B0 mesons produced in pp collisions at 鈭歴=7TeV are presented. The data set used was collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 40pb-1. The production cross section is measured from B0 meson decays reconstructed in the exclusive final state J/蠄KS0, with the subsequent decays J/蠄鈫捨 +渭- and KS0鈫捪+蟺-. The total cross section for pTB>5GeV and <2.2 is measured to be 33.2卤2.5卤3.5渭b, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. 漏 2011 American Physical Society.
