Abstract

Chern Insulators and Chiral Superconductivity in Rhombohedral Graphene

Rhombohedral multilayer graphene in a displacement field has recently emerged as a highly tunable arena for realizing strongly correlated and topological quantum phases. After surveying the key experimental developments, I will discuss three strands of our work on this material family. First, I will address the integer and fractional Chern insulators observed when the graphene is moir茅-aligned to an hBN substrate, including how the "moir茅 capacitor effect" generates the requisite moir茅 coupling. Second, I will introduce the Berry Trashcan, an idealized model which captures the salient low-energy features of pristine rhombohedral graphene, and show how its simplicity enables analytic insights into chiral superconductivity. Finally, I will discuss puzzling recent quantum oscillation data in the vicinity of the putative chiral superconductor.
